Sophia Aley

Sophia Aley is an American painter—born in Ft. Collins, CO, but raised in Christiansburg, VA, and Iowa City, IA. She is a published poet and formally trained classical musician with a Bachelor’s degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, where she was a horn player and an orchestral conducting student under Dr. Daniel H. Culver—and a member of the Quad City Symphony. Before her current residence in Atlanta, GA, Sophia also lived in Vienna, Austria and Brooklyn, NY. In May 2011 she painted live at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Manhattan. Her originals have been sold all over the US.

In very early childhood, Sophia lost sight in her left eye—for reasons still undiagnosed. All she retains in that eye is the ability to distinguish light from darkness. She did not study art past fifth grade in any capacity and instead relies on instinct, intuition, light, music and emergent images as guides in her work.

A portion of the proceeds from all Fine Art Marketplace sales benefit the Domestic Violence Intervention Program.
