Keith Ellway

I was born in the United Kingdom but now live in the United States. Educated and working in the sciences, I was drawn to the arts to fulfill a drive within myself to be artistically creative. I am a self-taught digital artist/photographer who aims to explore the persistence of beauty. Camera and computer are but tools that together enable me to express my vision.

"It all begins with light. The image is composed, the shutter opens and light falls on the sensor; an image is captured by the digital camera. Art from light. The creative process continues by using digital editing tools to a lesser or greater extent depending on the overall composition. In my works the photograph(s) or photographic element(s) becomes a building block for further exploration and may not be recognizable in the final piece but was instrumental in its creation. I experiment with many different techniques and approaches, working and reworking the piece until I am completely satisfied with the end result. I consider this to be a form of improvisation in digital art.

Light, color, shape and texture are the major elements in my work. I believe that the beauty of an object can be appreciated in many ways. Even if that object is viewed in a different context or altered, the inherent beauty remains. A tree has beauty throughout the year even through its appearance changes. Through my artwork I try to communicate this persistence of beauty. Each of my series has a theme that I use to explore this concept."
