I am a native of Buckhead. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in history in 1970 and Emory University School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. degree in 1974. I was a captain in the Air Force for 2 years before establishing a restorative dental practice in Buckhead. I sold my practice in 2000 and now do a part-time specialty practice in TMJ and head and neck pain in Buckhead. My mother was an artist and former president of the Atlanta Portrait Club. She died in 1984. All of my siblings wanted her paintings, but I wanted her painting equipment. I had always had a burning desire to paint, but never had the opportunity. I finally started giving it a try in 1994. Up till then, I didn’t even know I could draw. I tried a class from Atlanta College of Art and realized then that I had acquired some outstanding equipment from my mother. I still use her board and brushes today. I then took a class from Frank Broadhurst, past president of the Georgia Watercolor Society. A year later he took me on as a private student and became my mentor until his death in 2004. I am a life member of the Georgia Watercolor Society. I have had paintings selected for juried shows by the Georgia Watercolor Society, Spruill Art Canter and the Bascom Gallery in Highlands, NC.
