I paint every day either in my studio, outdoors or live during class demonstrations. My watercolors are painted in a traditional, impressionistic style; capturing the light and beauty with transparent pigment. I love to capture people and places in a moment of time; to transport them into a work of art that viewers can treasure again and again.
The Visual Stories series were inspired by my time in Hawaii and making quilts. I incorporated the Hawaiian quilt making techniques into my mandalas in order to tell a story using visual imagery and symbols. Like a quilt, these stories have multiple layers. Each image has multiple rings that can be read in a clockwise manner. Initially the paintings were composed of connected silhouettes, which later evolved into detailed etched drawings onto the painted surface. The images stay connected like the quilts.
